IFAC PP&PSC 2009:
The preliminary technical programme
Updated 1 July 2009

DEAR COLLEAGUES
I
have a pleasure to invite you warmly welcome to Tampere, Finland, to participate IFAC Symposium on
Power Plants and
Power
Systems
Control. The history of Tampere gives a good background to serve as a venue of this
symposium.
In
1882, just three years after Thomas Alva Edison had made up his electric light bulb, 150 light
bulbs were installed
in Finlayson’s weaving factory on the bank of Tammer-rapids. This was the first installation
in Scandinavia and fifth in Europe.
Today
automation and energy are presented remarkably in industrial and educational activities in Tampere.
Industrial
automation, power generation and power system equipment manufacturing companies
have
their factories and head quarters in Tampere.
Technical
University of Tampere is the leading university in Finland in automation and energy technologies.
So let’s meet in Tampere, have interesting symposium days in Tampere-hall, and enjoy the Finnish lake nature and cultural interests available in Tampere.
